RTP (Return to Player) is the theoretical percentage of total wagered value a game returns as winnings over a very large number of rounds. A 96% RTP means the theoretical house margin on that game is 4% in the long run.
Three common misreadings:
- RTP is not a session forecast. It is asymptotic statistics. Over a hundred rounds, the result can land far from RTP.
- RTP is not fixed per game everywhere. Many providers ship the same title in several RTP configurations, and the choice belongs to the operator. That has a direct effect on margin and on player perception.
- RTP says nothing about volatility. Two games with identical RTP can deliver completely different experiences: one pays small and often, the other pays rarely and big.
In regulated jurisdictions, the configured RTP is usually subject to disclosure requirements and testing-lab audit.
